Into a Routine

Not much new here, we have settled into a routine. In fact we are pretty boring right now. Ryan teaches everyday and starting Monday I will be a permanent building substitute at a local elementary school. A teacher there is on medical leave and so the regular permanent sub has taken over that class. So they need someone until January or February and are happy to let me work until our little boy arrives. It doesn't give us much time for anything else. The leaves are just about ready to change so we are looking forward to hiking and enjoying the fall foliage soon. I did however get my car registered here in Connecticut-no more Maryland plates! Ryan is still holding off changing his car, but he will have to soon, and then we have finished our transition to becoming CT residents!

First Days of School

Ryan has survived his first two weeks of school. He already has some interesting stories such as the $400 cell phone he confiscated on the first day. On the first day, my tía July(pronounced Julie) who is a crossing guard near the school, asked the students as they walked home who their math teacher was. Two girls said they had Mr. Fisher and said he was nice, sweet and they liked him. Though after two weeks, I wonder if they still think that! Ryan mentioned to another teacher about the lack of technology and soon after the principal came to him inquiring about the technology he had while student teaching. Now Ryan has an interwrite pad in his room that his principal got as a demo and Ryan will be demonstrating how to use it next week. Hopefully he can convince the principal to buy it so he can have it all year. The best part of the last two weeks was Ryan's first paycheck- we finally have money coming in again!

It is weird for him to go off to school and me stay home. I realized that this is the first fall from the time I was in kindergarten that I haven't started a new school year(hence the picture of me and my twin brother on our first day of kindergarten). The first few days were nice, but I'm already getting bored. So what have I been doing to keep busy? I've gone to my mom's first grade classroom several times to help out her with testing. I tried my hand at making a raspberry cheescake from the raspberries in the backyard. I don't like desserts and so never really made any therefore Ryan is using this extra time i have to get me to learn how to make his favorites. Anyone with easy recipes for desserts send them my way! Hopefully I can start subbing soon, I'm getting fingerprinted tomorrow, which will give me something else to do.

Mystic Seaport and lobsters

On Saturday we went to Mystic Seaport. We are trying to see as many different parts of Connecticut as we can. The best part was it was free! My dad informed us that the public library has a museum pass program which lets you check out free or discounted passes. We are definitely going to take advantage of it! I enjoyed the steamboat trip we took down the Mystic River and Ryan liked the whaling ship. There wasn't as much to do as we thought there would be, but we still had a good time especially since the pass saved us $37!

On Sunday we celebrated my dad's 58th birthday and had lobsters for dinner. Oddly enough the lobsters we for the triplets birthday (September 18th) and not for my dad. Apparently this is a family tradition, but I've never been there for it so can it really be a tradition without me? Furthermore, Rebecca (a triplet) lives in Maryland so she wasn't even there! The lobsters were on sale this week so we had them now instead of closer to their birthday. I actually didn't eat it since I don't eat seafood, but Ryan did. He even found some Old Bay seasoning for it and introduced Ito (my grandfather) to some Maryland culture. The raspberries in the backyard are now in season so I did enjoy eating those instead!
