Finally enjoying summer

With all the rain, we haven't been able to go outside much. Today however, we were lucky enough to have the rain hold off until just a few minutes ago as we were putting Ethan to bed. Matthew is house sitting at our cousins and since they have a pool we decided to visit while the sun was shining. This was Ethan's first time in a pool, we will be starting water babies classes soon so I was interested to see what he thought of the pool. He loved it! Here are a few pictures of the day.

Unfortunately Ryan and Justin M. couldn't come with us even though they are teachers and have the summer off. This is what they were doing instead:



They are painting our Grandma's house. First they have to scrape all the peeling paint. They are on day 4 and have only scrapped about half the house. I'm sad he missed out on our swimming adventure, but we already have plans on what to do with the extra cash the project will bring in.

Storm!

The craziest storm just hit in our area. I was nursing Ethan around 4:30 when it got extremely dark. First came the thunder then the rain. With in minutes it was pouring, followed by hail. It only lasted 10-15 minutes but the damage around here is incredible. We went outside to see a tree in the back had snapped in half crushing the neighbors fence. The hail destroyed all my dads flowers and his entire garden.




As we stood out there we could here a humming noise. It got louder and louder and louder but we didn't know what it was. Then we looked down the road and could see a glow coming from behind some trees. A tree hit the power line and it was on fire! Apparently there were more lines and trees down over on New Britain Ave which effectively trapped people in the neighborhood and kept everyone coming home from work out. Ryan and Rebecca were on their way back with our pizza and ended up parking at West District School and hiking it through the fields to our backyard. They said there were over 20 cars parked over there. We saw quite a few people cutting through our yard trying to get home. Oddly enough, we didn't lose power even though most of Farmington did.



Our neighbor told us that a police car came through and asked him how to get out of here. He had a prisoner in the back of his car that he was transporting to UCONN Medical Center. Brian told him about the narrow access path by New Horizons but that it was blocked by poles. The cop headed that way and no one saw it return so maybe he figured out how to get out and move the poles. Its been over 3 hours and the line is still there and as far as we know still no way out so Ryan's car will be staying at the school for the night. Hopefully our soon to be house is still in one piece, there are a lot of trees around there!

Ethan goes to another wedding

This past weekend we went to my uncle's wedding. Unfortunately I caught the fever Ryan had last weekend and I was sick the whole weekend. We did make it to the wedding, but didn't get too many pictures since Ryan was holding Ethan rather than taking pictures. Here are the ones we did manage to get.

By the end we were tired so we headed home early.

The next day was Father's day but Ryan brought me breakfast in bed, got up in the middle of the night with Ethan and took him to church while I stayed home to sleep so that I could get better. So it was a father/son day, isn't that how it should be?

Relaxing

How do babies know when you are standing? Ethan lets us know and he definitely he doesn't like it when we sit down with him. The only two places he lets us sit when we are holding him are at the piano and on the front porch swing at my parents' house. He loves to bang on the piano keys- maybe we have a budding musician! He even likes to listen to me use my rusty piano skills to play songs in the Primary Children's Songbook. Today we finally had a nice enough day to go out there and relax before putting him to bed. He was laughing and smiling right before we took the picture but of course when we got the camera out, he got all serious. I am definitely adding a front porch with a swing to my already ridiculously long wish list for our new house, Ryan will wish for the school year to start with all the projects I want him to tackle!

CT Trails Day

This past Saturday was CT Trails Day with activities going on all over the state. We had hoped to go to one of them but didn't make it. In the morning we went to some tag sales. We were looking to find things for our new house but mostly found books. I got a few board books and some hardcover books for a $1 or less each! In the afternoon between nursing Ethan and putting him down for a nap, we didn't make it out the door in time either. Instead we went in my parents' backyard. Behind their house is 28 acres of land that was donated to the Farmington Land Trust. So we decided to check it out since I haven't been back there since I was a kid. There is a even a trail so it should count as taking part in Trails Day. The trail took us to the elementary school I went to as a kid where Ethan got to go on a swing. We had a lovely time and think Ethan will love exploring behind his grandparents house when he is old enough!

Ethan at 4 months

Ethan is growing up so much! At his 4 month check up he was 16 lbs 11 oz and 27 inches long. He has settled into a nice routine and now takes his 2 naps in his crib (as opposed to his swing) I am still nursing him and hoping to not start solids until 6 months. However he is one hungry little dude and the last couple of nights I have had to feed him at night. If that continues he may be tasting his first solid food a lot sooner! Ethan has also gotten very stubborn, he now refuses to roll over. He screams every time I put him on his tummy. We know he can since when we go to get him from his crib he is often on his stomach. He is getting good a grabbing things and often pulls his binky out of his mouth. Occasionally he has put it back in his mouth but mostly I have do it for him. He also likes to suck on his toes, which works out good when I am trying to change his diaper. He loves to lay outside and watch the wind blow the leaves. That always calms him down. Here are some pictures we took last month. Ryan never touched them up like he likes to since we've been busy (see the next post) but I think they are perfect anyways!
